How to love your loaf: Bringing the Crust Back to Life

Our sourdough is sent to you without preservatives, which means it lives and breathes. When your box arrives, the crust may have softened or firmed up during its journey.

Don’t worry, the "soul" of the bread is still fresh inside.

1. The 10-Minute Refresh (Must Read!)

To get that "just-out-of-the-oven" experience, follow these steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

  • Lightly mist the crust with a little water (a spray bottle works great, or just wet your hands and pat the loaf).

  • Place the loaf directly on the oven rack for 8–12 minutes.

  • Wait! Let it cool for 5 minutes before slicing. This allows the internal moisture to redistribute.

2. How to Store Your Bread

Sourdough’s natural acidity helps it last longer than grocery store bread, but it hates the fridge (it dries out the crumb!).

  • On the Counter: Store cut-side down on a wooden cutting board or in a paper bag. It stays fresh for 3–4 days.

  • In a Bread Box: Ideal for maintaining a balance between a soft interior and a crisp crust.

  • Avoid Plastic: Avoid airtight plastic bags unless you prefer a very soft, chewy crust.

3. Freezing for Later

If you aren't going to finish your loaf within a few days, sourdough freezes beautifully.

  • Slice it first: This is the pro move. If you didn't order it sliced, slice the entire loaf, then place the slices in a freezer-safe bag.

  • Toast from frozen: You can pop a frozen slice directly into the toaster. It will taste exactly like the day it was baked.

  • Whole Loaf: Wrap tightly in foil and then a plastic bag. To thaw, let it sit at room temperature for 3 hours, then follow the "10-Minute Refresh" instructions above.
